IRS announces online e-services available soon for Reporting Agents
January, 2007
WASHINGTON — Reporting Agents will soon have access to the IRS e-services suite of web-based products tailored to meet your client’s needs. These services will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from just about any computer with an internet connection. You and/or your designated employees can start the registration process now and begin taking advantage of e-services as early as May 2007.
Registering for and using e-services is a snap and it will provide you and your designated representatives with the following capabilities:
  • Electronic Account Resolution (EAR) - allows you to submit inquiries and receive responses securely within 72-hours. Inquiry types include:
    • General Account Inquiry
    • Penalty Information/Computation
    • Misapplied Payment/Credit Transfer
    • Mixed Entity/Period
    • Multiple Inquiries
    • Follow-up Inquiry
  • Transcript Delivery System (TDS) - enables you to request and view your clientÕs account transcripts online or have them delivered to your secure mailbox for subsequent retrieval.
You must have a Form 8655, Reporting Agent Authorization, on file with the IRS, for the specific taxpayer, form, and tax period before requesting information on a client's account. We will provide authorization to use e-services to all Reporting Agent principals and responsible officials identified on the IRS e-file application. Designated employees must be delegated this authority by your company through the e-file application, once these e-services become available to Reporting Agents.
There will be FAQ’s available on line; and if you or your representatives have additional questions or concerns, you can contact the e-help Desk at 1-866-255-0654 (512-416-7750 for international calls). An online tutorial will also be available on irs.gov. Watch for more information about Reporting Agent e-services soon.
