NPRC Comments on Proposed Safe and Healthy Workplace Tax Credit

August 5, 2020 Uncategorized

Proposed legislation (S. 4318, the Safe and Healthy Workplace Tax Credit) would provide a refundable payroll tax credit of 50% of an employer’s qualified employee protection expenses, including modifications to workspaces to limit physical contact between customers and employees.

NPRC wrote to congressional tax-writing committees to note that the bill may only help reduce contact between employees and customers.  We pointed out that employers will also need to invest in new systems to limit physical contact between co-workers, including frequently-used surfaces like timeclocks. There are many other points of contact that can be made safer with upgrades to related systems.
