The NPRC actively supports appropriate electronic filing and tax payment programs. We have worked collaboratively for many years with federal and state tax authorities, state Workforce agencies, child support enforcement agencies and the relevant associations and advisory committees below, to improve electronic filing systems for payroll reporting from employers.
- The Federation of Tax Administrators (FTA)
- National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA)
- IRS Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee (ETAAC)
- IRS Information Reporting Program Advisory Committee (IRPAC)

An active NPRC subcommittee works with government counterparts to help design new e-file systems that function efficiently and accurately, improving government results and minimizing taxpayer and government burden.
For example, a key component in modern electronic filing systems is pre-filing taxpayer information validation programs. These are systems that use existing filing formats and protocols, in advance of tax filing due dates, to identify and prevent possible problems. Without this component, electronic filing systems often only replace paper return processing, and fail to take advantage of the quantum improvements in data accuracy that are possible with well-designed electronic filing systems.
